PROGRAM

The Oak Mountain Youth Baseball & Softball (OMYBS) program was established in the summer of 1995 to provide children attending Inverness Elementary, Oak Mountain Elementary, Oak Mountain Intermediate and Oak Mountain Middle schools, as well as area private and parochial schools, an opportunity to play baseball and softball together. These schools serve the unincorporated areas of north Shelby county.

The goal of OMYBS is to provide a program where kids can learn the fundamentals of baseball and softball, have FUN and learn to compete in a team environment. The program has grown from 230 children in the fall of 1995, to over 1,200 in the spring of 2002. OMYBS is affiliated with Metro Sports Baseball, Inc. and ASA softball.

FACILITIES

Heardmont Park was developed in 1999 to serve the area's recreational needs. The Park provides a central location for the children of the OMYBS program to play baseball and softball. Heardmont Park is a private-public partnership comprised of the Summit Foundation, Shelby County Commission, Shelby County School Board, Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Shelby County Parks and Recreation Authority, and several Park develpoment/user organizations including:

Development of park facilities is funded by parents and corporate donors who contribute financial support and physical labor to construct fields and other facilities. In addition to baseball and softball, the Park is home for the 6000 seat Oak Mountain High School football stadium, several soccer fields, tennis courts, walking trails and wetlands, the Senior Community Center and a Shelby County Sheriff's substation.
